Brightwell Aquatics FlorinBase Laterin Substrat VF
Overview
Create a nutrient-ready foundation for lush freshwater aquascapes. FlorinBase Laterin Substrat VF (Very Fine) is an ultra-fine, high-porosity clay substrate engineered for strong root anchoring, excellent flow through the bed, and superior cation-exchange capacity (CEC)—so rooted plants can capture and hold nutrients efficiently. Ideal for carpets, foreground plants, and nano layouts that demand tight planting and delicate scaping detail.
Key Features
-
Ultra-fine grain (VF): Perfect for carpet plants (e.g., Monte Carlo, dwarf hairgrass) and precise hardscape edges.
-
High CEC clay matrix: Holds nutrients near roots for sustained uptake (great with root tabs or column dosing).
-
High porosity for root health: Encourages microcirculation and beneficial microbes in the rhizosphere.
-
Inert & aquascape-friendly: Does not raise KH/GH; safe for shrimp, snails, and community fish when used as directed.
-
Low dust, easy shaping: Packs cleanly for smooth slopes, pathways, and foregrounds.
How to Use
-
Plan the layout: Place hardscape first.
-
Rinse lightly (optional): A brief swirl-rinse can remove loose fines; avoid over-rinsing.
-
Bed depth: Aim for 1.0–1.5 in (2.5–4 cm) in the foreground and up to 2–3 in (5–7.5 cm) where heavy rooters will sit.
-
Planting: Pre-moisten substrate, then plant with fine tweezers; mist plants before filling.
-
Fill slowly: Cover the area with plastic or a plate and fill gently to prevent disturbance.
-
Cycle & dose: Run filtration; begin your preferred fertilization routine (root tabs and/or liquid macros/micros) once plants settle.
Tip: For steeper slopes, terrace with rock/wood or use substrate supports to prevent slide.
Best Practices
-
Maintain planted-tank parameters: 72–80°F (22–27°C), pH suited to livestock/plants (often 6.2–7.4).
-
Pair with a comprehensive fertilization plan; VF excels when combined with root tabs beneath heavy feeders (Crypts, Swords) and liquid ferts for stems/carpets.
-
Good flow and regular filter maintenance support oxygenated root zones and healthy biofilms.
-
CO₂ injection is optional but recommended for dense carpets and vibrant growth.
Compatibility
-
Works with all common planted-tank filters (sponge, HOB, canister, sump).
-
Safe for shrimp, snails, and community fish when properly cycled.
-
Mix or layer with other FlorinBase grades if you want coarser grains in mid/background.
-
Can be used as a stand-alone substrate or as the top layer over an enriched base.
