Seachem ParaGuard

Overview

ParaGuard™ is the only fish- and filter-safe aldehyde-based parasite control solution (10% by weight) available for treating external fish infections. Unlike traditional medications containing toxic formalin, formaldehyde, or methanol, ParaGuard™ is safer to dose and will not alter aquarium pH or harm biological filtration.

This proprietary formula combines aldehydes, malachite green, and fish-protective polymers to effectively eradicate ectoparasites such as Ich, Velvet, and Flukes, while also addressing external bacterial, fungal, and viral lesions including fin rot. ParaGuard™ is especially effective for hospital tanks, receiving tanks, and during the introduction of new fish to prevent outbreaks.

Indications

ParaGuard™ is appropriate for treating a variety of parasitic infections in exotic fish, including but not limited to:

• Ich (White Spot Disease) – Ichthyophthirius (freshwater) / Cryptocaryon (saltwater).

• Velvet – Gold or rust-colored dust on skin and fins.

• Fin Rot – Ragged, disintegrating fins.

• Flukes – Gill or body parasites causing irritation, flashing, and rapid breathing.

Suggested Treatment Periods

• Freshwater: 14 days

• Saltwater: Up to 28 days

⚠ Important Note: Always complete the full treatment period without interruption. Stopping too early allows parasites to multiply and reinfect fish.

Directions

• Dose 5 mL per 40 L (10 US gallons) daily until symptoms clear or for the full recommended treatment period.

• For best results, use in a quarantine or hospital tank to avoid reinfection.

• Do not mix with other medications unless directed.
