Brightwell Aquatics MicroBacter Lattice Nitratz (Small)
Overview
Target stubborn nitrate with purpose-built media. MicroBacter Lattice Nitratz (Small) uses a high-porosity, microchannel ceramic that fosters dense aerobic biofilms on the outside and deep, low-oxygen zones inside—the sweet spot for biological denitrification. The small size maximizes packing density and contact time in reactors, canisters, and sump baskets, helping convert NO₃⁻ → N₂ gas for cleaner, lower-nutrient water in marine, reef, freshwater, and ponds.
Key Features
-
Engineered for denitrification – Outer pores support nitrification; inner micro-anoxic zones favor nitrate reduction.
-
Small-format media – High packing density and contact area for reactors and compact filter chambers.
-
Stable, inert ceramic – Won’t leach phosphate or alter pH/KH; long service life with routine rinsing.
-
Versatile placement – Runs in low-to-moderate flow reactors, canisters, or passive sump baskets.
-
Pairs with bacteria programs – Ideal with MicroBacter Start/7/Clean to seed and maintain robust biofilms.
Directions / Placement
-
Rinse gently in aquarium or dechlorinated water to remove dust.
-
Start low: Use ¼–½ of the final target amount for 1–2 weeks, then increase gradually.
-
Placement options:
-
Reactor: Set low, even flow (not tumbling) to maximize contact without grinding media.
-
Canister/sump basket: Place in a well-pre-filtered stage with steady but moderate flow.
-
-
Seed with a beneficial bacteria culture on new installs; allow 24–48 hours without UV/ozone after dosing to promote attachment.
-
Maintenance: Every 2–4 weeks, swish media gently in removed tank water to release mulm. Replace portions of media on a schedule; never all at once.
Avoid rapid nutrient swings. Adjust media volume/flow in small steps while watching NO₃⁻, livestock, and coral/plant response.
Best Practices
-
Keep mechanical filtration (socks/floss) clean to prevent pore clogging.
-
Maintain stable export and feeding; extremely low nutrients can stress sensitive corals/plants.
-
If using organic carbon dosing, begin conservatively and increase slowly while testing NO₃⁻/PO₄³⁻.
-
Ensure good oxygenation elsewhere in the system; denitrification occurs inside the media, not at the expense of display O₂.
Compatibility
-
Safe for reef, FOWLR, freshwater, brackish, and ponds.
-
Works alongside skimmers, carbon, and phosphate media (avoid large fresh media changes on the same day).
-
Space use away from medications or oxidizers; resume UV/ozone 24–48 hrs after bacterial dosing.
