Overview
Propag8 is a curated dry consortium of beneficial marine microbes formulated for frag racks, grow-out tanks, and propagation systems. It seeds stable biofilms on plugs and tiles, supports post-frag tissue recovery, and promotes a balanced microbial community that resists nuisance film and opportunistic bacteria—without adding dyes or perfumes.
Key Features
-
Targeted for propagation systems: Encourages clean biofilms on plugs, tiles, and racks
-
Post-frag support: Aids natural mucus production and tissue recovery after cutting
-
Balanced community: Nitrifiers + heterotrophs for robust, resilient microbiomes
-
Clean & reef-safe: No phosphates, nitrates, binders, or artificial colors
-
Flexible use: Slurry dip, spot application, or broadcast dosing to the system
Directions & Dosing
Start conservatively; observe polyp extension and nutrient trends, then adjust.
Prepare a Slurry
-
Mix ¼ tsp (~0.5 g) per 10 gal (38 L) of system volume in a cup of tank water. Stir for 1–2 minutes.
For Fresh Cuts / New Frags (Dip Method)
-
Place frags in a clean container with tank water.
-
Add the prepared slurry and gently baste frags/rubs for 5–10 minutes.
-
Return frags to the system; pour the remaining dip through a fine mesh into a high-flow area (optional).
Broadcast to Frag / Grow-Out Systems
-
Dose the same ¼ tsp (~0.5 g) per 10 gal (38 L) once, then daily for 3 days.
-
For ongoing maintenance, use ¼ tsp per 20–25 gal (75–95 L) 1–2× per week.
Best Practices
-
Turn off UV/ozone and remove filter socks for 12–24 hours after dosing to improve colonization.
-
Skimmer: You may pause for 4–12 hours to reduce immediate export.
-
Avoid dosing simultaneously with oxidizers/antibiotics.
-
Maintain stable temperature, salinity, and moderate flow over racks.
If water clouds slightly after dosing, that’s normal and typically clears within several hours. If any livestock appears stressed, perform a partial water change and reduce the dose by 50%.
Compatibility
-
Safe for SPS/LPS/soft corals, clams, and reef-safe fish when used as directed.
-
Compatible with Ca/Alk/Mg programs, amino acids, and carbon sources; monitor nutrients and adjust export if needed.
Ingredients
-
A dry blend of marine-safe, non-pathogenic bacteria (nitrifiers and beneficial heterotrophs) with inert carriers.
Storage & Handling
-
Keep tightly sealed, cool, and dry. Do not refrigerate or freeze the dry powder.
-
Use clean, dry utensils to avoid introducing moisture.
-
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
