Directions

1. Test first: Measure dissolved silicate with a reliable low-range checker.

2. Start low: Dose per label for total system volume. Begin at ½ dose for the first week.

3. Ramp carefully: Increase in small steps as needed to reach a low, non-zero silicate level appropriate for your goals (sponges/refugia).

4. Dose location: Add to a high-flow area of the sump; avoid direct contact with corals.

5. Monitor: Track NO₃/PO₄ and glass film/diatom behavior; adjust frequency accordingly. Do not overdose.

Tip: For new or “too clean” systems, alternate light silicate dosing with your bacterial program to encourage balanced biofilms.

Best Practices

• Maintain stable reef parameters: Alk 7.5–9 dKH, Ca 420–450 ppm, Mg 1280–1380 ppm, Salinity 1.025–1.026, Temp 77–79°F.

• Keep nutrients modest but measurable; extreme ULNS can stall biodiversity even with added silicate.

• Use mechanical filtration (socks/floss) and clean it frequently as communities establish.

• If you see persistent nuisance diatoms in the display, reduce dosage and shift additions to the refugium while you fine-tune export.

Compatibility

• Works alongside protein skimming, carbon/GFO (avoid adding immediately before fresh media swaps), refugia, bacterial supplements, and amino/trace programs.

• Space silicate dosing several hours away from strong oxidizers/sterilizers (UV/ozone/peroxide).
